“It is so rewarding
to watch students
develop- their excitement,
their curiosity, and most of all,
their confidence.”

Mission
ArtWorks NYC is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to provide NYC public school children with a guided introduction to the fine arts. Students learn to discuss, compare and interpret works of art through a series of classroom workshops that culminate in a museum visit. Our inquiry based approach encourages children to develop their own voice in responding to art, thereby strengthening critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Our Volunteers
ArtWorks NYC is a volunteer-based organization. Our
volunteers share a passion for art, a belief in arts education
and a deep commitment to the public school children of
NYC. Some are arts professionals; some former teachers
and others have no formal background, but offer a strong
personal connection and enthusiasm for the visual arts.
Volunteers are required to complete a training program
and are then assigned as classroom instructors or museum
tour guides. Learn more about volunteering.
*Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age.
History
Since 1977, ArtWorks has been a program beloved by NYC
public school students, teachers and our volunteers.
At the end of the 2011-12 school year, the original
parent organization of ArtWorks discontinued the
program due to lack of funding. In May 2012, ArtWorks
NYC was founded by agroup of dedicated volunteers
deeply committed to continuing the program as a
completely new and independently funded entity.
Artworks NYC, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity,
and all contributions are tax-deductible to the fullest
extent of the law.
